"How Acton Changed My Life"
This is a post from Lily, one of our Middle School Hero's.
As a prospective parent, you are probably wondering how you can change your child's life, whether it’s at public school, private school, or Acton. This blog post is to give you my insights, and how Acton changed me in a way public school never could.
It has changed me in many areas, but one I would really like to focus on, is the way I see my future. Acton has a certain curriculum that shapes a child’s future so they are ready the second they get out of high school. It’s called the Hero’s Journey. It is a 12 step process that includes steps that lead you to your future.
At traditional school, it was the same 4 things for 6 hours straight. Math, English, Science, and History. But at Acton we focus on life skills. Sure we still do math and reading and history, but it isn’t our main focus. We have about 2-3 sessions dedicated to science still, but we like learning about actually useful life skills. I was always so worried that I wasn’t going to become anything of myself in regular school. But the second I stepped foot in the doors of Acton, I felt my whole life just fall into place. I look at my future way more differently than I ever have. At Acton, I realized I had a purpose in life.
